The Milwaukee Torrent 2018 outdoor soccer season is fast approaching. Every season brings new challenges, and this year the Torrent have two major ones; returning the men’s team to their 2016 NPSL Central Midwest Championship form, and growing and developing the new WPSL women’s team. Coach Davi, and both squads are up for the challenge and extremely eager to get started.

Men’s Team

Team rosters have not yet been fully determined, and won’t be until after the March 25th men’s team tryouts, but there is already reason to be excited for this year’s men’s action. Additions to the center portion of the field, both offensively and defensively, will give Coach Davi and his staff both depth and flexibility at those positions. With the return of key members such as Capitan Drew Ruggles, Andrew Wiedabach, Milwaukee Wave Player of the Year Stuart Grable, Nemanja Medic, Isaac Pereyra, Mark Hutchinson, and Tony Patterson, the Milwaukee Torrent look to improve their roster with these announced additions:

Michael Da Silva – Striker

Michael Da Silva comes to the Torrent as a striker. He most recently played for the Milwaukee Wave of the MASL (Major Arena Soccer League), where he was able to get to know some fellow Torrent players. DaSilva was born in Nigeria where he learned to play the game on the streets. After moving to the states in 2008, DaSilva played high school soccer for Milwaukee Lutheran High School where he was named all Lutheran high school all American team twice, as well as leading the conference in goals two years in a row.

After high school, and playing for former US national player, Jimmy Banks, while at Fusion SC, DaSilva went on to play for UWM Men’s Club Team for a year. DaSilva ended his collegiate career at Cardinal Stritch before being lucky enough to sign with the Milwaukee Wave.

Torrent fans will be excited to watch DaSilva for his speed and natural finishing ability, while being a solid team player. “I get along with everyone” says DaSilva. “Because of my time with the Wave, I already have a solid relationship with some of the Torrent. It makes me really excited for the season to get started.”

Samuel Biek – Central Midfielder / Central Defender

Born and raised in Marburg, Germany, Samuel Biek adds depth and flexibility to the center of the field for the Torrent. Back in Germany, Biek played for TSG Wieseck, the second highest youth tier in Germany. While there, Biek was named to the All State Hessen team.

After coming to America, Biek was a redshirt freshman at Bethal College in 2015. The following two seasons he played in 45 matches, netting 13 goals and four assists as the captain of the team. He received Crossroads League Offensive player of the week and NCCAA defensive player of the week awards. Biek is truly an “All” player by being named NCCAA All-Region team, Crossroads League All-Conference, NCCAA Scholar Athlete, as well as earning a spot on the NCCAA All-Tournament and All-American Teams.

“I am a very physical player that plays with a lot of passion and emotion,” says Biek. “Though I am a central defender naturally, I usually find the net. I was the leading scorer this past season at Bethel.”

Biek is looking forward to getting to know the City of Milwaukee, and all that makes it great. “I’m excited for the next step in my soccer career. I’m looking forward to getting to know the Torrent, the community, and most of all the Torrent fans.”

Joey Spera – Defender

Milwaukee Torrent Fans may know Joey Spera as the All-State Wisconsin Team Defensive Player of the year (chosen by the United Soccer Coaches of America). Spera comes to the Torrent from Wheaton, Illinois, where he was fortunate enough to live in an area with a strong soccer culture. Joey played for Kopion FC and at Wheaton Warrenville South High School.

Spera moved on to St. Norbert College, where he just completed his fourth year as a starter. Spara was the team captain his last two seasons, while being named Midwest All-Conference and NSCAA All-Region. In 2017 Spear was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches. Spera contributed to St. Norbert College’s 52 victories since his freshman year, and 30 with Spera as team Captain.

“I am honored and thrilled by the opportunity to continue my soccer career with the Milwaukee Torrent,” says Spera.

Marco Perez – Midfielder

Marco Perez, born in Mexico, was raised in Milwaukee. His father has been a great influence on his son, after playing professionally in Mexico. Perez spent eight years playing for Mequon United, learning from Omar Sethi and Michael Konovalenko. While there, Perez played super-y league to ODP.

A graduate from Alexander Hamilton High School, Perez was named City Conference Honorable mention both his junior and senior years. While playing with the Croatian Eagles and North Shore United, Perez had the opportunity to play in the majors league.

Perez recently finished his collegiate soccer career at Wisconsin Lutheran College where he helped them win their first ever NACC Final in 2016.

“It was a great experience, and I was lucky to be a part of that team,” states Perez. A humble statement from the man named to the Warrior Cup All-Tournament Team.

Michael Mayberry – Forward

Michael Mayberry comes to the Torrent from across the lake, having played last year for the Muskegon Risers of the Premier League of America. Mayberry was named to the league’s midseason All-Star Team and ended the season as the Riser’s leading goal scorer.

Mayberry is a natural finisher. He has lead his team in scoring twice in his short career, including scoring 10 goals in 21 matches while at Columbia College. He was named first team all-AMC Forward and conference offensive player of the week in 2017 while at Columbia College. That same year he was named first team all Midwest region, 2017 NAIA All-American. He led the Cougars to an Elite 8 appearance at the National Tournament, as well as the 2017 AMC regular season and conference tournament champions.

Mayberry is very excited to be a member of the Torrent, and looks forward to his new chapter in his soccer career.

Women’s Team

New to Milwaukee this year is the highest level of women’s sport of any kind in the state. The women’s Torrent roster is still coming together, and due to NCAA rules, most player names cannot be shared until the season gets closer. However, there is much to be excited about already with the talent that has been announced for the squad.

Kerry Geocaris – Defender

Kerry Geocaris joins the Torrent from Green Bay, WI. She has been playing in men’s and coed competitive leagues and coaching youth soccer for the past 15 years. After suffering an ankle and knee injury in high school and college, Kerry’s dream of playing collegiately at Marquette University came to an end.

She was team captain and starter all four years at Notre Dame Academy. Geocaris led the team in goal scoring and assists and was awarded MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Area, 1st Team All-Conference, and Player of the Year multiple years. She played on the ODP State Team, North American Ambassador European Tour team, and for the Universdad de Complutense in Madrid, Spain.

Kerry is a life and business coach, motivational speaker, TV personality, and the founder of Simply Kerry, LLC, a coaching and consulting company who teaches self-healing, functional elevation, and authentic entrepreneur growth. She lives in Green Bay with her husband Brad and two children, Elliot and Teya.

She is thrilled to be following her dreams 20 years later with the Milwaukee Torrent.

Robyn Elliott – Central Midfielder

Robyn Elliott comes to the Torrent from a far-off land called Sussex, Wisconsin. Now living in Brookfield, Elliott is the quintessential soccer player since birth. Elliott attended a soccer clinic in second grade, and has loved the sport ever since. Elliott and her twin sister, Rachel, would play soccer every day in the back yard after school; this after taking a ball to school to play during recess.

Elliott played for eight years for Lake Country United, playing in the MRL her final season. She ended her club career with Elm Grove U18 in the WPSL. She played varsity all four years she attended Sussex Hamilton, being co-captain three of those seasons.

Robyn went on to play at UW-Oshkosh, where she was a four-year starter. She is the first player in school history to be named All-Conference and All-Region all four years.

Elliott looks to bring her hard working spirit to the team this year. She has a great, positive attitude that will help the team tremendously.

“I don’t like to fail, but if I do, I fail forward. There is always a lesson to be learned,” says Elliott. “I never want to give up. I try every day to push myself to be better than I was yesterday.”

With an attitude like that the Torrent Women should be a force in the WPSL this season.

Emily Cervantes – Striker

Emily Cervantes began her soccer career with Hartford United playing U6-U8 before giving way to Lake Country United, Oconomowoc and Elm Grove. She was first team All-Conference and first team All-State four years in a row while playing for Catholic Memorial from 2013-2016. Cervantes was named NSCAA All-American in 2013 and 2014, as well as being named the 2014 Gatorade Wisconsin player of the year.

Cervantes closed out her high school career with 444 career points, placing her second in state history. She is also second in total points for a Wisconsin high school season with 152, second highest in state history for total goals scored with 197, and in 2014 she finished with the second highest goal total for a season in state history with 66.

Cervantes is a four-time state champion and the all-time leading scorer in Catholic Memorial High School history with 444 points. Software for eclipse mp3 player.

Jen Eberhardy – Center Midfield

A senior at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Jen Eberhardy has a long-standing history of soccer in the state. Eberhardy played from 2003 to 2013 for FC Milwaukee and FC Wisconsin Eclipse. In 2013 and 2014 she continued as a center midfielder with North Shore United.

2012, after a year of playing year-round club soccer, Eberhardy began her high school career with Menomonee Falls where she was team captain in 2013 and 2014. In Eberhardy’s time with Menomonee Falls High School, she was named first team All-Conference in 2013, second team all-conference in 2012 and 2014, second team all-state in 2013 and 2014, most valuable offensive player at the high school in 2012 and 2013, as well as being the recipient of the school’s leadership award in 2013. Eberhardy closed out her career at Menomonee Falls by being named to the Wisconsin Senior All-Star Team in 2014.

Jen began her career at UWM as a defensive midfielder, and went on to start every game for the university in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Eberhardy was named team captain in 2016 and 2017, and finished her 2017 season second in the nation for assists during the regular season in division 1.

Marybeth Sullivan – Midfielder

Marybeth Sullivan is a native of North Carolina. She played club soccer growing up in Greensboro for the Greensboro United from age 10 to 18. She began her college career at UNC-Charlotte before transferring to Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Once here, Sullivan was a four-year started being named All-Conference first team and all-region second team freshman and sophomore years. As a junior, Sullivan was named All-conference second team before being named team captain her senior year.

Since her college career, Sullivan had the opportunity to play one season for Newcastle United in England. Additionally, Sullivan has been coaching for about 10 years, currently coaching for Racine United. Sullivan has two real passions in life: playing soccer and coaching soccer. She gets support from her twin sister and her two dogs.

Aubrey Krahn – Center Forward

Aubrey Krahn fell in love with soccer as a child because of her sisters. She watched them play and wanted to do what they did. She started by joining the academy team at Lake Country United, where she played for eight years. Aubrey finished off her club career with two years at SC Waukesha as a center and outside forward.

Krahn played her high school years for Waukesha North from 2011-2014, captaining the team for 2 years. All four years, she was named First Team All-Conference, Offensive MVP for the school, and Wisconsin’s best of the rest award winner. She was named Olympic Development Program region II holdover in 2011 and 2012.

Krahn went on to play as a starting forward on scholarship for UW-Milwaukee beginning in 2015 through the present. In 2014, Krahn was named Freshman to watch at UW-M. 2016 and 2017 she received offensive player of the week honors. Then, in 2017 Krahn shined for the university. She was the not only the top scorer for the Panthers, but finished with the second highest point total in the Horizon League. Krahn’s achievements were noticed by being named First team all-conference, Academic All-District, and named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central team.

Aubrey brings to the Torrent a work ethic that surpasses most, as well as the desire to compete against the best. “There is no better feeling than winning, and that’s what I look to do often with the Torrent this season,” says Krahn. “My style at the center forward position is to play a bit of a throwback way. I like to hold the ball at my feet, turn you, and hold you off with my strength.”

As the weather continues to warm up, so does the excitement level for Milwaukee Torrent soccer. The high-powered potential that is forming on the Men’s side, coupled with the addition of high-level Women’s soccer in Wisconsin, has given fans in southeastern Wisconsin the opportunity to rally together. Bring the family and give the kids something to dream of becoming. One City. One Torrent.
