| When Apple switched from 68k processors to PPC chips, they included a 68k emulator. Does that emulator (I presume run in software) work in SS? I would suppose it does since Mac OS 9 still has some 68k code in it.

I found some information relating to the DR (dynamic recompiling) 68k emulator. It should be supported experimentally in SheepShaver and was introduced in 2004. But I don't know if and which of the current versions include the code. If the DR 68k is supported, the preferences editor should show up an option to turn it on and off.

EDIT: All current versions supports the DR 68k emulator. The emulator can be activated by selecting 'Enable buit-in 68k DR Emulator (EXPERIMENTAL) on the settings page for the Jit compiler.
As it resides under the Jit-compiler settings page, I gather it is an attempt to speed up the normal 68k emulator already available in Mac OS.

| The 68k emulation that is built into MacOS is fully functional in SheepShaver. If it wasn't, much software could not be used in SheepShaver, including several control panels that even in MacOS 9 still rely on 68k code. An application like ResEdit, which is 68k only, runs fine in MacOS 9 in SheepShaver.
'I Love Native! Pro' is a freeware application that can check whether a program is 68k, PPC or FAT:

I do not know what the 68k DR emulator in SheepShaver is, I never had it enabled, but I suppose it is not related to the 68k emulation in MacOS.

| Makes me happy! Now I don't need Basilisk! The fact that the 68k emulation in MacOS works in SheepShaver does not mean that all old 68k applications can be used in SheepShaver. Also compatibility with system software counts. An application may work in System 7, but not in MacOS 9. Also, the emulation makes applications run slower. Remember how people complained when they started using PPC Macs? Existing software ran slower on their new 100MHz PPC Macs than on their old 33MHz 68k Macs.

| Well, that's not a problem, because everything I want to run I know ran fine on my iMac G3 OS9, and I remember that those games included some old 68k games. But now I know they'll run fine, and SS is the only Mac emulator I'll need.

| When an app run fine on 68K Mac OS 8.1, it should run on PPC Mac OS 9 and Classic.
Even my 1991 After Dark 2.0 screensaver engine runs on Mac OS 9 (both in a friend's beige G3 and in SheepShaver).
