Balika Vadhu Serial Story 2011

It's been eight long years that Colors' flagship show Balika Vadhu has been entertaining the audience. Clocking 2,000 episodes at a stretch, the show has entered the Limca Book of Records as the longest running daily fiction soap (Hindi). The show, which traces the life of young bride Anandi, gradually went on to show the journey of her daughter Nandini.

Balika Vadhu was also a launchpad for a slew of actors, who eventually became big names on TV. Right from Avika Gor, Pratyusha Banerjee, Shahshank Vyas to Sidharth Shukla and Vikrant Massey, who later forayed into Bollywood, Balika Vadhu has featured a long list of talented actors. The storyline gradually changed, and all these actors, too, started fading out from the show, which now features actor Mahi Vij as the protagonist alongside Avinash Sachdev and Ruslaan Mumtaz. For those who've been wondering what the original cast of Balika Vadhu is up to, here's a look:

Avika Gor: Avika played the original 'balika vadhu' Anandi, who was married off to Jagya at the age of eight. Avika's innocent face became the show's USP. Currently, 18-year-old Avika is just back in India from a tour of the Cannes film festival, where she went to unveil her short film Ankahee Baatein. Avika is the creative director of the film. Between Balika Vadhu and her short film, she acted in a lead role as Roli in Sasural Simar Ka.

Avinash Mukherjee: Avinash played the young Jagya, and his bitter sweet fights with Avika aka Anandi became the highlight of the show when it started. A big guy now, Avinash now plays the character of Aryan in Man Mein Hai Visshwas Season 2. After Balika.. he featured in prominent roles in shows such as Gumrah: End of Innocence, Sanskaar - Dharohar Apnon Ki, Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya.

Her teacher is very fond of her. Her parents decide to marry her and her marriage is thus fixed. Sonal was a part of this famous serial and because of this people got to know about him. It was a dream change serial. He played the role of Saurabh Kabra in the serial and appeared in the serial for a while. After Balika Vadhu, Sonal was seen in the serial ’Sadda Haq,’ aired on Channel V in 2011.

Pratyusha Banerjee: One of the most loved actors, who took Balika Vadhu to the peak of success was Pratyusha, playing the role of the grown-up Anandi after a five-year-leap. Be it her romance with Jagya or the trials that her character eventually faced, Pratyusha immortalised Anandi. She moved on to take a break and then participated in a couple of reality shows, including Bigg Boss. Pratyusha is no more. She allegedly hanged herself on April 1 this year, but she still remains the darling of the small screen, and is fondly missed.

Shashank Vyas: Lanky and charming, Shashank Vyas immediately won all hearts playing the grown-up Jagya. His chemistry with Pratyusha became the highlight of the show. After playing the character for almost three years, portraying all shades possible — doting husband, loving son, betraying lover to lovelorn man — Shashank eventually left the show last year and is on a sabbatical now.

Surekha Sikri Rege: This veteran actor has played the cult character of Maa-sa on the show since it's inception. The oldest crew member, the 71-year-old played the role from 2008 until last month, when her character was killed.

Anoop Soni: Anoop played Jagya's dad Bhairon. A strict father and father-in-law, who led Anandi's character towards empowerment, Anoop's character was a nothing short of an inspiration. He left the show two years ago, and is currently seen hosting Crime Patrol.

Smita Bansal: In no way the stereotypical mom-in-law, Smita's character was compassion personified. She showed the country that a daughter-in-law can be a daughter, too, and her poignant portrayal made women dream of a 'saas' like her. Smita has been on a break ever since she left Balika.. in 2014. She was recently spotted bonding with actor Sangeeta Ghosh with her family in Ranthambore.

Bhairavi Raichura: Bhairavi, the 'Kajal bhai' of Hum Paanch, played the diametrically opposite rustic character Bhagwati — the very honest, soft-hearted yet stern mom to Anandi. Eventually, she quit the show and took her career to the next level by turning a producer, making shows such as Chhal, Laut Aao Trisha and Satrangee Sasural.

Neha Marda: Neha debuted as the underage bride, playing Gehna chachi to Anandi and Jagya. She left Balika.. after bagging a lead role in Doli Armaano Ki, which wrapped up in 2015. Satyajit Sharma: Playing both negative and positive shades, Satyajit aka Basant was a popular character on the show. His character was killed in a mishap two years ago. Satyajit currently plays the protagonst Shravan's father in Ek Duje Ke Vaaste on Sony.

Vikrant Massey: Vikrant played the lover boy Shyam bhai ji, who was first seen romancing Anandi's widowed sister-in-law Sugna, and then taking the bold step of marrying her. Vikrant quit the show and took the big Bollywood leap with Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera (2013). He was next seen in Dil Dhadakne Do last year. Currently, he is shooting for A Death In The Gunj with Kalki Koechlin, and also Konkona Sen Sharma's directorial debut, Lipstick Under My Burkha.

Sriti Jha: Sriti Jha played the character of Ganga, yet another helpless victim of child marriage, who eventually landed up in the Singh household. After a series of events, she married Jagya. Sriti was a pretty face and a brilliant actor, who, too, moved on once she bagged a lead role in Shaurya Aur Suhani (2009). She was next seen in Rakt Sambandh (2009-2011) and Dil Se Di Dua.. Saubhagyavati Bhava (2013). Currently, Sriti plays the protagonist in Kumkum Bhagya.

Sargun Mehta: After Sriti left, Sargun was roped in to play Ganga, and she did justice to her act. After she left the show in 2014, she has been part of several shows either as a host or in a guest appearance.

Anjum Farooki: Anjum played the negative role of the 'other woman' in Jagya's life. Her realistic portayal of a possessive wife made her character most hated on the show. Her character was seen fading out of the plot after which Anjum left the show. She got married and hasn't been seen on TV ever since. The character did make a comeback but was played by another actor, Deblina Chatterjee.

Sidharth Shukla: Sidharth played the handsome hunk 'Collector saab' aka Shiv. He played Anandi's second husband after Jagya. As the doting husband, Sidharth won several hearts. So much so that his charm transpired to Bollywood and Sid bagged a role in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. This year he won Khatron ke Khiladi, and is now hosting India's Got Talent.

Roop Durgapal: Roop played a negative character of Sanchi, who was in love with Jagya. She quit the show two years ago. Roop now plays Kaavya in Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, and is also seen in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi.
